Design and Implementation of a Driving Strategy for Star-Connected Active Magnetic Bearings with Application to Sensorless Driving

For decades, sensorless position estimation methods gained lots of interest from the research community, especially in field electric drives and active magnetic bearings (AMBs). In particular, direct flux control (DFC) technique promises unique advantages over other techniques, such as a higher bandwidth, but on hand, it requires coils to be connected star topology. Until now, star-point connections are rarely found bearings. consequence, there is no known publication about application DFC an AMB this date. order apply AMB, driving approach for AMBs must developed beforehand. A star-connected approach, capable four-phase proposed validated against traditional H-bridges simulation. Further, strategy tested physical generalised 4?n phases. terms current dynamics, simulation results can compared well-known full H-bridge driving. The experiments show that actual follows reference with satisfactory accuracy.
